NOTES:

    • Proof of address for residency

      • If you are renting through an agent (emlak) or subletting from someone you happen to know, you will need a lease in your name. You will also need to get this document notarized, which should cost about 120 TL.
One important note: if your lease agreement mentions any sort of security deposit or advance payment or have a Guarantor, the notary will charge you a percentage of whatever the contract states.

Most agents or landlords will supply another contract with no mention of security deposit or a very low figure and no Guarantor to avoid this fee, if you have paid a substantial deposit then the notary fee will be equally substantial!

      • If you own your own property then provide a copy of the TAPU (Deeds) UPDATE 29.06.2015 - We now know that your TAPU must be stamped at the TAPU office before submission to prove that you still actually own the property, as the DGMM claim you could use and old TAPU, post sale, to try to show you own a property. (why this is necessary when you still have to provide proof of registration on the address registration system is beyond me but .....)

    • Proof of address without a rental contract in your name or TAPU

      • You may be staying in Turkey with a friend or relative and do not have a rental contract or TAPU in your own name, in this case you can get a "letter of undertaking" (a "taahhütname") from the Noter office.

This document allows a "sponsor" to act as a guarantor and they will pay any fines you may be liable for.

To apply for this you must visit the Noter with the person(s) who are named on the TAPU or Rental Contract, they will need their passports/Kimlik (If Turkish) and copies as well as originals and copies of the TAPU/Rental Contract with the full correct address. All sign the taahhütname, if anyone does not speak Turkish then the noter may insist on an official translator to translate the document so its understood (at costs you will have to pay). The costs are - 1 name on TAPU/Rental contract - 98TL - 2 names on TAPU/Rental contract - 145TL - Translator fee - around 50TL. Then this document can be attached to your residence permit application in lieu of your own rental contract or TAPU.
  • Which Notary (Noter) should I use?
    • Any Notary can notarize the rental agreement but Noter no.11 near Migros 5M has a receptionist that speaks English and is very helpful. (see map below for location)
