Mack, I think you just misread it - it says that *officials* and holders of *diplomatic* passports must apply before travelling, which has always been the case. Us punters can just walk right on in with our £10 notes.

Ah, OK, thanks, its nice to know that sometimes we have more freedom than the "officials" :)

Further to the above article its been officially announced by the the UK Foreign Office that there is no change in the previous 90 days tourist visa rules and any future changes will be announced beforehand with implementation dates giving ample time for people to make arrangements.

What a complete fiasco from start to finish! It is nice to see the UK FCO getting off their butts and chasing up till a conclusion though, a rare "slap on the back" moment for them :)

I went for my Kaş - Meis visa run yesterday... everyone on the boat got the normal 90-day visa, including non-UK passports. Business as usual. I don't trust that they won't change it again, in fact I'm sure they're planning on it, but at least now I have some breathing room to raise some money for the residence permit, and it doesn't have to be done right this second (which was stressing me out because I'm poor at the moment).

So, good result all around. Also, I was told that the unlucky people who went for their visa run when they were giving out the 90/180 visas can now go to their local police station to get the visa amended free of charge, but it's not strictly necessary - it would just be for your own peace of mind.
